Positioned on a long idyllic stretch of sandy beach overlooking the crystal clear waters of Lake Tanganyika, and below the magnificent Mahale Mountain range, this is a simple camp. Its name derives from 'Nkungwe', the highest peak in the Mahale Mountains range.
All 8 tents face Lake Tanganyika. Most are raised on wooden platforms to enhance the views. Furnishings are crafted locally. Each has twin or double beds and en-suite with hot shower and flush toilet. All are adequately spaced and private and have their own decks for relaxing and enjoying the lake views.
Excellent cuisine consists of English breakfasts, light lunches and 3 course dinners. Speciality dishes are the fish caught locally from the lake. Traditional African dishes are also served.
Nature walks in the National Park, chimp trekking and safaris, wildlife and nature safaris in nearby Katavi National Park, fishing expeditions, village and cultural visits, swimming in Lake Tanganyika are all on offer here.
